Deep Blue

Here is a picture of a fish I did not too long ago. The materials I used were illustration pens, markers and bristol board (9x12). Normally I rarely use markers in any piece because I never really like how they turn out. For this piece however I really like the lines it created from the strokes, it gave the water more of a flowing feeling. I also enjoyed how after it dried I could go over it again with the same color to add some shading. Looking back at this piece I wish I would of used more references, but over all I still like it :)

Bookstore

If you tell me that you wouldn't visit this bookstore. I'm extremely disappointed in you. http://www.atlasobscura.com/places/el-ateneo-grand-splendid

Hey guys! I was wondering if you would leave some feedback on my hallway drawing. I was sitting in a chair, so let me know if my perspective is off.. Thanks! :)

Intertwined

One thing I feel is important as a designer is to never limit yourself to one medium. I always like trying new things and seeing what I can do with new materials and such!

This is a wood burning/painting on just regular ply wood. I drew first in pencil then went over it with my wood burning tool. After that I painted it with acrylic paint (I use the brand Basic, I actually really love it. The only issue I've ever had was happening to get a bad tube where the paint was chunky. Either due to age or a mishap in production. Other than that I highly suggest it. You can get tubes from 4.99-10.99 I believe at hobby lobby.) I then finished it with painting just the top oval with a gloss coat.

As for the subject I decided to do two twins still in the womb. I tied up their umbilical cords to make the shape of a heart to symbolize the "sibling love". The title also has a play on words inter(Twin)ed. Plays off the twin part, the tied up umbilical cord, and the fact they are going to be forever bound by being siblings :)

Welp that's my post of the day! Let's see some of your work too!

Paintings that are Interesting

For those of you taking history of art or enjoy renaissance type art or paintings in general I suggest checking out the link below! The artist Rayyan has done a variety of paintings that you can see through his gallery that hold a mixture of renaissance and romanticism themes. It was interesting and inspiring to me and also made me find that class a bit more interesting by putting the idea of trying those old styles for myself at some point. It is also a good example of a digital portfolio, some of us in the future will need to create one so it's good to look at examples.

Check out the link!
Which one is your favorite?
What kind of emotions or opinions do certain paintings evoke from you?

Arsenic

Hello everyone! This is Dani from class and I plan on being very active on this blog viewing and commenting on your work and also with posting things of my own. I think the blog is a good idea for us to share and be inspired by one another and also get/give constructive critiques ! For my first post I decided to post something thats a bit old. This is my OC (original character) Arsenic. He goes by Nic for short. I designed him as a brother for a psychotic bunny series I was doing. The original bunny and also his brother name is Wenis. Wenis is a blunt force/ sharp object murderer who has psychotic episodes constantly. Arsenic however is a "Scientist" who "accidentally" kills in the name of science. He uses his grant money and loans to fund for his chemicals and "experiments". Another fun fact about arsenic is he made the mask he is wearing because he got tired of people referring to him as "Cute" and "adorable" it also seconds as his protective gear for when he is in the lab.

For the shirt I used shirt paint (The brand is Tulip, it holds well on the shirt but it is hard to mix!) and just a regular cotton shirt. I bought both from hobby lobby. I love hobby lobby if you ever need anything I suggest going there just for the simple fact they have a 40% off coupon every month (year round) that you can use on anything (practically) I know they had the big blow up earlier in the media but if you ever have to buy something like prisma colored pencils or other expensive things like art pens or markers, that 40% off coupon is preeeeetty nice. (All you have to do is google 40% off HobbyLobby and you can even just show them it through your phone! Enjoy!)

room sketch

This is an interior sketch, it's not in perspective, just arranging objects in a room.

2-point perspective rice cooker

I attempted this drawing using the 2-point perspective method taught in our class. I find the combination of cube and cylindrical exercises help.

Contour drawings

This is one of the contour drawings I did at the beginning of this semester when you were asked to do the exercise. For me, I think that drawing contour is a great practice not only for your hands, but also for your eyes (or mind?) to train you to "capture" images of things. It also serves as good warm up before jumping into more precise drawings (or painting, sculpting, etc., since it is essentially sketching).

Keep drawing contours for all those reasons. And it only takes a few seconds per image, so you could produce quite a few in the duration of 5 minutes.

Let's share and teach each other, so that we all keep improving.

Hello, world!

All. Thanks for joining this blog. The idea is for you to post your sketches, drawings, paintings, etc. and see what your classmates are doing, so that we could help each other improve. You could post your work from class or outside of class.

I encourage you do as many sketches as your hectic schedules permit (at least once a week). Taking lessons you learn from class or outside of class, apply them to your drawings. Tell us your interests and where do you want to grow and improve.

I shall try to participate in posting some sketches as well. I hope we could make this blog a very active one. Let's us all help each other.

And most importantly, let us all have fun!
